About The Joker

I entered the world of a DJ in 1989. I always loved music and enjoyed playing music and listening to music I suppose that is where every DJ in the world started. But believe me, I never thought that I would become a DJ!

In 1989 my brother bought himself a mobile disco and started to play for weddings, 21st parties and house parties etc. I was his caddy and always went with him S carrying speakers! But I used this time to learn as much as I could. I still believe that my brother, Dj-T (Tyrone) was one of the best DJ¹s in the 80¹s and 90¹s.

When my brother started his University studies, he also played still kept on DJ-ing in various night clubs. Luckily he left the mobile scene to one of my friends and me. We started to do various parties, weddings and 21st parties. Believe me, this is where I gained the most experience in my whole career.

When I left school, I had no job and once again my brother came to the rescue. He organized me a job at one of the clubs where he was playing at, he orginised - wait for it!!!!!! he organized me a job washing glasses for R50 per week! Believe me, I was not happy, but once again I used the time to learn and to observe what type of music worked and what you should not do.

And at long last and quite a lot of glasses later, I got my first gig on a Wednesday evening. The pay was more R150 per evening. Slowly, but surely I started to build up a following. Then came my first opportunity for a Friday evening. What a nightmare! All the amps, but one, blew and we only had one CD player that worked. Playing with one amplifier and one CD player, but we did it. Giving new meaning to ³You must first crawl, before you walk! I crawled that evening.

And then, at long last, I started to play a number of clubs as a residential and guest DJ:

My big break in clubs came at the well-known Alcazar Night Club. I also helped to bring out the club's first cd. During the producing of the CD, I met Paul de Klerk (Gallo Records), now working at Next Music and Nic Burger (Gallo Records) now working at Soul Candi Records. These two guys really assisted me over the past years especially with regard to producing my own CD¹s.

When I started with my producing career, I met the talented Eric M. I decided to go into the Mega Mixing part of music producing as I was always hooked on the Max Mix Collections and Music Factory Mastermixes. In August 2006 I finally made it onto the Music Factory Mastermixes with one of my Megamixes, the Urban Cut Up Mix Vol 1, once again a big thank you to Richard Lee, Label Manager. Music Factory. At this stage of my career I produce quite a lot of Mega Mixes enjoying every minute of it, plus one of my megamixes has been released again onto the Mastermixes, Issue 257.

I am since 1999 fulltime Radio Presenter and also Program and Technical Manager at East Rand Stereo 93.9FM. I am really enjoying the world of radio broadcasting!

Advice on how to become a professional DJ? Start with the mobile scene first and learn the tricks of the trade. Remember anybody can beat mix, but not everybody can become a DJ!
